Sabren – صابرين means patience in sudanese arabic. Patience and resilience are the key skills that Sudanese need to have these days. Sabren is also the title of the short movie by Eythar Gubara, a Sudanese filmmaker based in Hamburg. During the event, the movie will let you dive into the inside of the protests in Sudan in 2021-2022. Additionally voices from the Resistance Committee from Sudan will build the connection to recent developments in the country. A discussion together with the audience will create room for exchange and brainstorming how to break the shrinking spaces in future.

The film will be shown in Arabic/Sudanese Language with English subtitles. The talk will be held in English.

Eythar Gubara is a Sudanese freelance photographer filmmaker and activist for human rights. She is mainly known for her documentary images of everyday life in Sudan and of events during the Sudanese Revolution. In her work, she has placed a special focus on women and LGBTQI+, as well as on social diversity in Sudan. She won the Photography Award at the Arles Festival 2021 for the group exhibition called Revolution/ Thawra. Who talks about the revolution in Sudan.

The Resistance Committees of Sudan are neighbourhood groups that have spearheaded Sudan’s pro-democracy movement since 2019. They used to be the coordinators and ‘first in the row’ of multiple peaceful protests in Sudan over the past 4 years. Today they mobilised to establish committees of medics, nurses and engineers across the country to serve humanitarian assistance since the war erupted.

Theresia Kneschke is a German freelance advisor for startups and social businesses in Sudan. Further, she creates platforms for Sudanese business owners and artists on her instagram feed and website under @resbloggt. Under the slogan “until war is not stopping, I am not stopping” she initiated several fundraisers, a petition to the German government and a support system for people fleeing Sudan safely and informed.
